October 2002 Contest Winner:
Hi shoppers, we'd like to announce the winner of the October PSS shopper contest.
In October we asked shoppers to send us their worst mystery shop ever and why it was so. Our winner was Pat Hickey of MS. This poor lady gets $10 in her PayPal account for the nightmare she went through and taking the time to tell us about it! Congratulations, Pat, and we hope your next shop is a bit less adventurous!
As you enjoy reading our winning October entry below, please send in your November entries:

October 2002 PSS shopper contest winner:
If I had 10 computers, I could tell you all about my last shopping/reporting venture! I will try to condense it. I asked for a job which required the use of a digital camera. I had bought one several months before, but had barely used it. I wanted to make myself learn how.
Man, did I have trouble!! It started with the study for the shop. When my hard drive went out at the beginning of June, my Adobe acrobat program went out too. But I forgot that, and I could not understand why the instructions for the shop would not print. I asked the scheduler to unassign me, but in a couple of hours I finally figured out what to do to read them, and since she had not responded I asked her if I could still try to do the shop.
Well, I had to take some pictures of the things that were wrong at the place. (It was a REVEAL shop.) I had to read my manual while I was taking pictures. And the light was so bright outside I was not sure if the camera was on or not. (I could not see the little green light. It must not have been on for some pictures. I occasionally got the flash to work and got about 5 pictures of a dirty ol' commode but 3 others I was supposed to take were not there when I got home. )
Of course, I did not know how to download the pictures either, since I had never tried that. It took about 2 hours for me to hook everything up after about an hour of playing solitaire trying to get myself psyched up to TRY to hook up everything. it took more time to change the names of the pictures, then more to upload. But it said "Successful Upload!"
Boy, I was proud of myself! I wrote the scheduler and told her part of my troubles and that I was finished. She said don't worry until she or I heard from the client. Well, we DID hear from them! They said they did not get ANY pictures and that I had said in the comments that I did not take any. What I'd said was, "The pictures did not take."
Well, fortunately, I had saved the comments. So I sent them to the scheduler. She wrote back saying to attach the pictures to an email to the client and to her. BUT, I did not know how to attach anything, either! It took 2 more hours to figure that out and then the next morning I got RETURNED MAIL from AOL because I put the wrong blankety blank email address! But I sent it all again. I had sent them to myself about 8 times the previous night trying to make sure that pictures were actually going somewhere. I did not even care about being paid, any more. I was looking at it like college--paying to get educated.
Phew!
