September 2002 PSS shopper contest winner:

"The key ingredient in mystery shopping is working hard at finding out the CSR's name. Usually the name tag says all, but then there is the rare occasion when its practically an Olympic Event to SEE the nametag. That was the case recently when I was on a mystery shop in a grocery store. My job, get the name of the employee working the meat/butcher block counter. The only problem? The gal doing that job was SHORT and her badge was just counter high, so I couldn't see her name.

So I thought, "Okay, I can do this. all I have to do is drop something, look up through the glass counter, and I'll see her name tag."

Oh that it was that easy... She must have thought I was the clumsiest person on the face of the earth, because first I dropped my keys and tried to look up and see but she turned one way, then I dropped my purse, and she went to help another customer and finally I TRIPPED landing on one knee! At this point she bent down and asked if I was okay and lo and behold, I read her nametag. Sometimes reading a nametag requires persistence and ingenuity!"
